Mavericks discuss NHL affiliation

The Missouri Mavericks had a very successful first season as an independent minor league hockey franchise.

However, the Mavericks may not be independent for long, as the team is in talks with multiple teams to potential gain some sort of affiliation or working relationship with a National Hockey League franchise.

“Right now, I’d give you a number of four in some capacity or another,” Mavericks president and general manager Brent Thiessen said of the teams the Mavericks are talking to. “Certainly some are more serious than others. At the ...

Yankees aren't the only "Evil Empire" out there

As I watched the Royals play the Boston Red Sox this weekend, it gave me a good look into the things that are truly wrong with this sport.
And the Red Sox are right at the top of the list.
However, you won’t hear many people give this opinion. No, there’s already too good of a villain in the New York Yankees. And, as dangerous as the Yankees are, I find Boston to be more of a threat in general.
One look at Boston’s lineup proves it.
In Saturday’s game, Boston ...

McNabb trade will impact Chiefs

Usually, a trade between two NFC East teams doesn’t really affect the Chiefs a whole lot.

This year is a completely different story.

Sunday’s trade of Donovan McNabb to Washington now greatly affects the Chiefs in the upcoming NFL Draft, as the Redskins pick one slot ahead of the Chiefs.

Many experts had Washington taking Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen with the No. 4 pick. While that is obviously still a possibility, the chances of that move happening are slim at best.

Looking at Washington – especially knowing the history of new ...

Future is indeed bright for the Mavericks

The frustration was evident Sunday night in the Independence Events Center.

The Missouri Mavericks had controlled the game, shored up the defense, but still could not knock off Rapid City, falling 2-1 in the game, 2-0 in the best of seven series. That last number is more ominous because the next three games are in Rapid City.

And while players, fans and people associated with the team were clearly a little down about the result, I’m here to say the future of this team is as bright as the ...

Coach's race was a close one

By JASON TARWATER
SportsRadioKC.com

The Big 12 season is over and this was probably the most competitive “Coach of the Year” award I’ve seen in awhile.

While everyone sees the race as coming down to KU’s Bill Self and K-State’s Frank Martin, I think Baylor’s Scott Drew should also have received attention.

At the start of the season, Baylor was picked No. 10 in the preseason poll and ended third – including beating Texas twice. While hindsight shows that beating ...

Perseverance pays off for Bochek

By JASON TARWATER
SportsRadioKC.com

For those wondering if hard work and perseverance truly off, I present exhibit A: Missouri Mavericks center Kyle Bochek.

The youngest member of the Mavericks at 21, he’s also been one of the most unlucky this season – watching more games in a suit than in a hockey jersey because of a myriad of injuries.

But when he does get into the lineup, he makes things happen.

After missing a large part of the season with a ...

Utah and Pac 10 nearing deal

By Jason Tarwater
SportsRadioKC.com

The dominoes for college realignment appear ready to fall. But, it may not be the Big 10 knocking over the first one in what many expect to be major conference realignment on the college scene.

Rather, it is going to be the Pac-10.

I’m hearing the Pac-10 is VERY close to an agreement to add the University of Utah to the conference. While the Pac-10 flirting with Utah is not news – Utah has been considered the primary target ... << MORE >>
